SCRIPT:
Narrator: Once upon a time there was a kind carpenter named Geppetto.

Geppetto: I feel very lonely … I have nobody to talk to. I work all day making chairs and tables….. But now, I will do something different. Something I have never done.

Narrator: So he took a piece of pine wood and started making a puppet. He worked all day carefully carving each detail.

Geppetto: How beautiful it is! How I wish that he were a real boy. I have always wanted to have a son… your name will be Pinocchio.

Narrator: That night when Geppetto was sleeping, a Blue Fairy came to his house. He stared at the puppet and said.

Blue Fairy: Pinocchio, it is true, you are beautiful… and with my magic wand I will give you life.

Narrator: Then the puppet opened his eyes and started moving slowly. And the fairy added.

Blue Fairy: Pinocchio, I want you to be a brave, honest and generous boy… so every time you tell a lie, your nose and your ears will grow, and when you tell the truth, they will be normal again.

Narrator: Then the fairy disappeared. Next morning when Geppetto woke up he heard somebody calling him.

Pinocchio: Father… father

Geppetto: Who´s calling me?

Pinocchio: It’s me… Pinocchio. Don’t you recognize me?

Geppetto: It seems like I am dreaming… Finally I have a son!

Narrator: A few days later Geppetto started thinking about Pinocchio´s education.

Geppetto: Pinocchio, you need to go to school.

Pinocchio: But… father… I want to be with you always.

Geppetto: So do I, Pinocchio, but you have to learn. I want you to be an intelligent boy. I cannot teach you many things that you can only learn in school.

Pinocchio: Then, I will go to school! I will study hard so that I can have a good job and earn a lot of money.

Geppetto: We don’t need the money, Pinocchio. We are happy the way we live.

Pinocchio: I know father, but I want to buy you a coat.

Geppetto: Very well, but now, go to school, it’s getting late.

Pinocchio: Good-bye father!

Geppetto: Good-bye, Pinocchio!

Narrator: When Pinocchio was on his way to school he heard a man shouting.

Man: Come in! Ladies and Gentlemen! Come and see out puppet show!

Pinocchio: A puppet show? Wow… puppets like me… I have to go and see them.

Narrator: So Pinocchio instead of going to school, he went to see the puppet show.

Pinocchio: Oh, I am so happy that I want to dance with them.

Narrator: And he climbed onto the stage and started dancing. But soon he realized that they were not real puppets like him.

Pinnochio: I can dance and sing better than these puppets and I don’t need strings like they do.

Puppet Master: Get off my stage!

Narrator: Then when the audience saw that he didn’t have strings they started shouting.

Audience: Hooray! hooray!

Audience: That puppet looks like a boy! I like him!

Audience: He is moving by himself. He has not strings! Don´t go! Stay here!

Audience: Don´t go! I want to see him again!

Puppet Master: They liked him! … Boy, do you want to be in our show? You can earn a lot of money!

Pinocchio: No, because I have to go to school.

Puppet Master: Then take these coins. You danced very well.

Pinocchio: Thank you, sir.

Narrator: And Pinocchio left the theatre and started walking to school. Then he heard someone calling him.

Cat1: Well, well, well! … Are you in a hurry, little boy?

Pinocchio: Yes, I am going to buy a coat for my father.

Dog: Oh, come on… that’s not enough money to buy a coat. Wouldn’t you like to have more?

Pinocchio: Yes, but how?

Cat2: That’s easy. If you plant your coins in the Field of Miracles, a plant will grow and it will give you a lot of money.

Pinocchio: And where is that field?

Fox: We will take you there.

Narrator: So the cats, the dog and the fox, who in fact were four liars, took Pinocchio to a faraway place.
Pinocchio: Is this the place?
Dog and fox: Yes it is. This is the place where you will give us your money!
Pinocchio: But you said
Cat2: I know what I said!<
Fox: Didn´t they tell you not to trust strangers?
Narrator: Then they took Pinocchio’s money, tied him to a tree, and left him there all by himself.
Pinocchio: Help! Help! Somebody help me! Please!
Narrator: But nobody heard him. Then the Blue Fairy appeared but Pinochio could not tell her the truth.
Blue Fairy: And where did you loose the coins?
Pinocchio: When I was crossing the river.
Narrator: Then Pinocchio felt strange.
Pinocchio: What is happening to me? Why is my nose growing?
Narrator: And he started crying.
Blue Fairy: I once told you that every time you tell a lie, your nose will grow and when you tell the truth, it will shrink. Now, go straight home and don’t stop for any reason.
Pinocchio: Thank you good fairy, I will never lie again. You can be sure of that!
Blue Fairy: I hope so, Pinocchio.
Narrator: When Pinocchio was on his way home, he met fouir children that were laughing and playing.
Pinocchio: What is happening?
Boy 1: We are going to Fun Land.
Pinocchio: What kind of place is that? I never heard of that place?
Boy 2: It’s a place where there’s a party every day!
Boy 3: There are no schools and no teachers.
Boy 4: Do you want to come with us?
Narrator: Then the Blue fairy appeared.
Blue Fairy: Didn’t you promise you would go to school?
Pinocchio: Yes, I have been there.
Narrator: And then his nose started growing again. Now he had a very long nose.
Pinocchio: Uh, uh… I am sorry… I lied again.
Blue Fairy: Go home, Pinnochio!
Pinocchio: Yes, Blue Fairy.
Narrator: He went home, but Geppetto wasn´t there. Then he heard someone calling him.
Neighbour: Pinocchio! Pinocchio!
Pinocchio: What´s wrong?
Neighbour: Pinocchio, I was at the beach and I saw Geppetto going into the water, when suddenly a big whale swallowed him!
Pinocchio: Let’s go, I have to save him!
Narrator: Both went to the beach.
Narrator: When the whale appeared again, it swallowed him too. When he was inside the whale he saw Geppetto and both hugged.
Pinocchio: We have to get out of here. I have a plan to get out. I´m going to tickle his stomach.
Narrator: And they did. The whale gave a big sneeze and they were out of the whale’s mouth . Then the Blue Fairy appeared.
Blue Fairy: Geppetto, your dream will come true!
Narrator: And the Blue Fairy touched Pinocchio with her magic wand.
Pinocchio: Look at me father! I am a real boy!

The Ugly Duckling (el patito feo)

The Ugly Duckling

Characters: Narrator, Mother Duck, 6 Brothers, Pig, Cow, Goat, Ugly Duckling, Birds, Geese, Old Woman, Hen, Farmer, Swans, Children

SCRIPT:

Narrator: Once upon a time on an old farm, there was a duck family, and Mother Duck had been sitting on a clutch of new eggs.

Mother Duck: It was about time that my eggs hatch! … 1,2,3,4,5,6 ducklings I have!

Narrator: But something was not right.

Mother Duck: Mmmm… that egg didn`t hatch, and it is bigger than the rest… I don`t remember laying that seventh egg…  I wonder how it got here… or did I count the eggs wrongly?

Narrator: But before she had time to think about it, the last egg finally hatched. A strange looking duckling with gray feathers not yellow looked at a worried mother. The ducklings grew quickly, but Mother Duck had a secret worry.

Mother Duck: I can’t understand how this ugly duckling can be one of mine!.

Narrator: The gray duckling certainly wasn’t pretty, and since he ate more than his brothers, he was bigger. As the days went by, the poor ugly duckling became more and more unhappy. His brothers didn’t want to play with him.

6 Brothers: Stay away from us!  We don´t want to play with you.  You are so ugly, you are not one of us!

Narrator: And all the animals in the farm laughed at him.

Pig, Cow, Goat: Ha, ha, ha.. you look so funny! Where did you come from?  Did you get lost?  Stay away from us, you don´t belong here.

Narrator: He felt sad and lonely, while Mother Duck did her best to console him.

Mother DucK: Poor little ugly duckling! Why are you so different from the others?

Narrator: And the ugly duckling felt worse than ever. He secretly cried at night. He felt nobody wanted him.

Ugly Duckling: Nobody loves me, they all tease me! Why am I different from my brothers?  sniff, sniff

Narrator: Then one day, at sunrise, he ran away from the farmyard. He stopped at a pond and began to question all the other birds.

Ugly DucKling: Do you know of any ducklings with gray feathers like mine?

Narrator: But everyone shook their heads.

Birds: We don’t know anyone as ugly as you.

Narrator: The ugly duckling did not give up, however, and kept on making questions. He went to another pond, where a pair of large geese gave him the same answer to his question.

Ugly DucKling: Do you know of any ducklings with gray feathers like mine?

Geese: We don’t know anyone as ugly as you. Don’t stay here! Go away! It’s dangerous. There are men with guns around here!

Narrator: The duckling was sorry he had ever left the farmyard. Then one day, his travels took him near an old countrywoman’s cottage. Thinking he was a stray goose, she caught him.

Old Woman: I’ll put this in a henhouse. I hope it’s a female and lays plenty of eggs!

Narrator: Said the old woman, whose eyesight was poor. But the ugly duckling laid not a single egg. The hen kept frightening him.

Hen: Just wait! If you don’t lay eggs, the old woman will kill you and pop you into the pot!

Narrator: And the cat said.

Cat: Hee! Hee! I hope the woman cooks you, then I can eat your bones!

Narrator: The poor ugly duckling was so scared that he lost his appetite, though the old woman kept stuffing him with food and grumbling:

Old Woman: If you won’t lay eggs, at least hurry up and  get fat!

Ugly Duckling: Oh, dear me! , I’ll die of fright first! And I hope someone love me!

Narrator: Then one night, he escaped. Once again he was all alone. He run as far away as he could.

Ugly Duckling: If nobody wants me, I’ll hid here forever.

Narrator: There was a lot of food, and the duckling began to feel a little happier, though he was lonely. One day at sunrise, he saw a flight of beautiful birds. White, with long necks, yellow beaks and large wings, they were migrating south.

Ugly Duckling: If only I could look like them, just for a day!

Narrator: Winter came and the water froze. The poor duckling left home to seek food in the snow. He dropped exhausted to the ground, but a farmer found him and put him in his big jacket pocket.

Farmer: I’ll take him home to my children. They’ll look after him. Poor thing, he’s frozen!

Narrator: The duckling was showered with kindly care at the farmer’s house. In this way, the ugly duckling was able to survive the cold winter.  However, by springtime, he had grown so big that the farmer decided:

Farmer: I’ll set him free by the pond!

Narrator: That was when the duckling saw himself mirrored in the water.

Ugly Duckling: Goodness! How I’ve changed! I hardly recognize myself!

Narrator: The flight of swans came on to the pond. When the duckling saw them, he realized he was one of their kind, and soon made friends.

Swans: We’re swans like you! . Where have you been hiding?

Ugly Duckling: It’s a long story.

Narrator: Now, he swam majestically with his fellow swans. One day, he heard children on the river bank exclaim:

Children: Look at that young swan! He’s the most beautiful of them all!

Narrator: And he almost burst with happiness.

Queen: (crying) A hundred years! No!

Narrator: The King ordered to burn every spindle in the land.

Princess: Oh, sweet old lady. What are you doing?

Old Lady: Don`t you see, young girl? I am spinning.

Princess: It`s very nice. Can I try it?

Old Lady: Sure.

Princess: Show me how, old lady? … like this? Ohhh

Narrator: And the princess pricked her finger with the spindle, and fell to the ground. Then the king called the last fairy.

Fairy 6: She will sleep for a hundred years. Every body in the kingdom will fall into a deep sleep too, including the maids, noblemen, maidens, animals, guards, and the whole court, including you and the queen, so that when the princess wakes up she will not be alone.

King: What about this castle?

Fairy 6: This castle will remain in the middle of a deep forest, and nobody will be able to get near it, until a hundred years have passed. Don`t worry, your majesty, your daughter then will be very happy.

Narrator: Time passed by rapidly. The forest was so deep that people could only see the castle`s towers. One day…

Prince: Uhh, horse, uhhh… Good morning, old man. What are you doing.

Old Man: I am taking care of my sheep. This is the only thing I can do.

Prince: How old are you?

Old Man: Well, 75 years old.

Prince: Then you must know who the owner of that magnificent palace is.

Old Man: Oh, yes sir. A long time ago… my father told me that the castle is under a spell. He said that a beautiful princess is there, waiting for a prince to wake her up and marry her. But, for now, nobody can go inside.

Prince: Don`t worry old man, I will.

Old Man: But you can`t… the forest will not let you in.

Prince: Good-bye!

Narrator: That man was a very handsome prince who was hunting in the nearby woods. The prince´s horse galloped toward the castle where sleeping beauty was waiting. When he arrived, the trees let him in until he reached the great staircase that led to the castle.

Prince: That old man was right! The castle is in a deep sleep…. Everybody is sleeping, guards, maids, birds… but, I have to look for the princess.

Narrator: Finally, in a small room, he found the beautiful princess sleeping, lying in a bed wearing a gold embroidered dress. The prince approached her; he knelt down, and kissed her.

Prince: Beautiful Princess

Princess: Ohh, where am I?

Prince: In your palace. You have just woken up from a hundred-year sleep.

Princess: Why did I sleep so much?. Who are you?

Prince: I am a prince, son of a king. I came to wake you up. The good fairy told me the story, and she said that the bad fairy died a long time ago.

Princess: No, no, prince, I don`t remember anything. And now, what?

Prince: Now we will go to my palace. We will get married, and we will invite all the fairies that made you so beautiful, gracious, smart, good…

Princess: Oh, yes, prince.

Prince: We will be the happiest king and queen on earth.

Narrator: When they arrived to the prince’s kingdom, the crowd was already gathered in the streets.

Crowd: Hail to the Princess! Hail to the Prince! Hail to the king and queen!

Narrator: And that is how the princess after a hundred year sleep, became a queen, and lived happily forever and ever.
